SLBC 2021 Season Awaiting Board Decision

Posted: March 10 st, 2021

It is that time of year to plan for the 2021 season.

We are hoping to be able to have bowling this season.

This year, like 2020, presents many challenges in the planning for the upcoming bowling season.

In April we normally hold a Committee Head meeting, a Spring members General Meeting and have registration for the season. Bowling normally starts in May

As of todays, date we are uncertain of the guidelines that will imposed by the OLBA, Bowls Canada, the Province, York Region, the Town of Stouffville as to gathering sizes etc. for May.

In addition, all Tournaments will be reviewed as to their viability under the provincial guidelines re gatherings.

With the Pandemic continuing this year and the total uncertainty as to when the initial immunization shots against Covid-19 will be available to everyone, as well as when the second follow up shot will be available, the Executive have decided to postpone the start of the 2021 bowling season (, including meetings and registration), to begin in either June or July. This will mean registration in either May or June (meetings to be determined).

We will review the situation again in April, once all the required information is available, (including gathering sizes permitted ) and make a decision as to, hopefully, the start date then.

If we do start bowling again, we will be insisting that everyone wear a mask while on the property. This will be regardless if you have had your single or two immunization shots (depending on your age group). The experts are advising that you continue to wear a mask for up to three months after you have received your shot (s). This is to protect you and as well as others. In addition, we will still have various protocols in place including sanitizing etc.etc.

New Horizons for Seniors Grant Program

As you are aware, we applied for a $25,000 grant to construct 12 badly needed permanent wooden sun shelters for our club. We applied for it as a result of being informed by the Town that our club would not be relocating any time in the foreseeable future.

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the $25,000 grant. We are in the process of finalizing all the paper work with the Grant Program.

In addition, several members of the Executive will be meeting with the Town shortly to expedite the construction of the shelters. We hope to have them constructed as soon as possible, but with the Pandemic restrictions, we have to wait and see the timetable. The Town will build them and they must be built to their standards, including contractors required guidelines to work for the Town, as they own the property. We will pay the town the $25,000 to build them.

We have provided the Town with the drawings and Specifications for the shelters.

The SLBC will work very closely with the Town and their contractor in order to ensure that the integrity of the green is maintained and that they are built correctly.
